To learn about healthy nutrition involving a variety of foods and nutrients from the essential food groups.

Four bottle caps of varied colors
Colored bead markers

o Players set up apple cards (numbers down), six different categories separated by color, colored bead markers, and die in the middle of playing area. Each player chooses one bottle cap to hold colored bead markers.

o The first player rolls the die and draws the number of apple cards shown on the die face down. The final card will be drawn face and its number will correspond to the category question that will need to be answered.
o Example: Player rolled 5. Cards 1-4 drawn are face down and fifth card is number up. Player must answer a card from the fifth category.

Directions for playing
“What’s On the Menu?”
(Teacher may want to read directions to class)

Object of the Game: Each player is trying to fulfill their breakfast, lunch, and dinner requirements before the other players.

Contents: Four sets of meal cards with the food requirements on them, stack of cards with different food pictures on them

Preparation for Play: Each player will receive a set of meal cards with a green card on top. DO NOT LOOK AT CARDS UNTIL YOU HAVE READ ALL DIRECTIONS. Spread out the white cards like you would in “Go Fish” in the middle.
Roll the die to see who will go first.

Rules for Play: Each player will take only their yellow card out to start and will try to fulfill the food group requirements by drawing cards from the center draw pile. Once they have all of the needed cards for breakfast, they should put those aside with their yellow card and then discard any cards left in hand to the center pile. Next, the player may take out their blue lunch card. They will repeat the process of trying to get the required cards for that meal. Lastly, they will complete the blue dinner card.

To start, each player will draw three cards from the center pile. Next, the players must go around the circle rolling the die to see how many cards they can draw on that turn. Each player must only have the amount of cards the same as the amount of servings of the meal they are working on. For example, if your breakfast card has four servings total, you should never have more than four cards in your hand at a time and should discard after picking up new cards so you don’t acquire more than four. If your dinner card has seven servings total, you may have up to seven cards in your hand at a time.

Ending the Game: The player who correctly fulfills their requirements for breakfast, lunch, and dinner first wins!
