Question: How do children acquire health attitudes and habits? And why would this be important to us as teachers?
Early childhood is an ideal time to promote health, safety and nutrition education. it is also a time when teachers can help young children begin to develop an awarenes of social and environmental issues that affect their well-being. Teachers have a professional and ethical obgligation to provide children with accurate information and to help them learn good habits and attitudes. Many health, safety and nutrition behaviors become well established during the early years and are typically carried over into adulthood. For these reasons, it is important that families and teachers capitalize on teachable moments and children's developmental readiness to learn. Helping children to establish positive behaviors and practices during the early years is more effective than attempting to reverse poor habits later in life.

Question:
What are some procedures that need to be done before a class goes on a field trip, and why are they so important?
Answer:
Approval From the School and Board
First, you must lay out the guidelines if the field trip and present them to the school administrator or principal for approval. If passed, the superintendent must next approve the field trip. The trip request will then get passed along to the school board for a final approval.
Permission From Parents
Next, each student must obtain written permission to attend the trip, by having a parent or guardian sign a consent form. The consent form will outline the purpose and schedule of the field trip, and ask for a parent's name, signature and date. The student must return this signed form before the field trip in order to attend.
Schedule Transporation
Most field trips use school buses for transportation to the field trip location. In this instance, you will often be required to submit a Requisition for Special School Bus Transportation form, and turn it in to the school principal. The principal will confirm this request, and organize the amount of buses you will need to fit all students (each school bus holds an average of 65 students).
Chaperones
Chaperones are also necessary for many field trips, as there must be enough adults to adequately chaperone all students attending the trip. Typically one chaperone is designated for every five to ten students.
Itinerary and Costs
An itinerary must be presented to the principal prior to the date of the field trip, outlining the day's schedule and events. Estimate the cost of the total trip, and configure the cost of the trip. If the school board is not funding the trip, and students must pay for their portion of the field trip, calculate these costs before sending permission slips home to the parent, so they can decide if they want to pay this cost for the child to attend.
