Develop a question using information from the 2009 edition of our Health, Safety, and Nutrition textbook that can be answered within three to six sentences. One student should respond to that question and pose the question they've developed. Only one answer per question is allowed.

What are the domestic guidelines that help identify children with ADHD? Also, give a brief summary/explanation of each one.

Inattention - easily distracted and has difficulty paying attention
Impulsivity - needs a lot of supervision because they often act without thinking
Hyperactivity - constant fidgeting or moving around

Since there are no universal safety rules, individuals must develop their own guidelines and rules based on what 4 things?

The 4 things an individual must use to develop their own guidelines and rules for safety are looking at the population of children being served, the type of program and equipment used, the number of adults available for supervision, and the nature of the activity that is involved.


What is the difference between emergency care and first aid? With emergency care, the victim is also checked and treated for what 3 things?

Emergency care refers to immediate treatment administered for life-threatening conditions. First aid refers to treatment administered for injuries and illnesses that are not considered life-threatening. In emergency care the victim is checked and treated for severe bleeding, shock, and signs of poisoning.


Teachers play a major role in promoting children's social-emotional development. How can teachers accomplish this task?

There are several things teachers can do to promote social emotional development in children. Teachers can model good conflict resolution processes, build communication skills between parents and their children, and providing many opportunities for children to understand and appreciate differences in people.


Since food safety depends on sanitation. What are some causes of food bourne illness and when should you sanitize in food preparation?

Some causes of food bourne illnesses can be bacteria, parasites, pesticides, dirt, hair, rodent droppings. One should always sanitize before they come in touch with food and after.

Young children, especially those under three years of age, are highly susceptible to communicable illness. What are some factors that may contribute to this increased risk?

(April Vandiver) Risk factors for communicable illness include: lack of hand washing, lack of cleanliness during diapering, lack of clean water, lack of sanitation in the environment, sneezing and coughing into open air, and malnutrition.

What was included in the Child Abuse and Treatment Act? (page 303)

The things that were included was the first national law that addressed the problems of child abuse and neglect, provides legal protection to children who are maltreated, requires states to pass laws, designate an investigative agency, and establish policies. The last one is reauthorizations of this act reflect concern about contemporary maltreatment issues, including adoption, foster care, abandoned infants, family violence, and the need for better agency collaboration.

What are the similarities and differences of emotional and verbal abuse? (Answer)
The similarities between emotional and verbal abuse are they both occur when a caregiver criticizes, verbally assult, ignore, or belittle a child's behavior. Most of the time they both use words to do the abusing and they lead to physical in some cases. Differences between verbal and emotional include the way they are identified verbal is identified by notable changes in child's behavior and emotional is identified by the child's interaction with people around them.

Washing your hands. 2 communicable diseases are H1N1and the chicken poxs. Both of which are spread through touching, drinking, sneezing etc around an infected person.

minerals are inorganic elements that help regulate body functions. They are important to find on foods and drinks because they help with growth and regulation of body tissue. They also play an important role in releasing energy and cellular reproduction. They help with nerve impulses as well.
